Gateway Seniors, Eastern Area Agency on Aging, and the Old Town Public Library Plan Panel for Caregivers of People with Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias

Three agencies are joining together to offer a panel for caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias on October 3, 10 am to 12pm, at the Old Town Public Library: EAAA, Gateway Seniors, and the Old Town Public Library.  There will be refreshments; and a light lunch will be served. The panelists will focus on community resources for dementia.  The speakers represent the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine, Westport Center for Rehabilitation and Alzheimer’s Dementia, Acadia Hospital,  Eastern Area Agency on Aging, Dirigo Pines Retirement Community Memory Unit, and the Wandering and Good Morning Programs.  The following topics will be discussed: respite care, day treatment, memory units, dementia diagnosis,  support groups, information resources, and classes for savvy caregivers.  There will be a respite worker and assistant to provide activities for people with dementia who come with their caregivers. Caregivers must register at the EAAA (ask for  Karyn Grass, 941-2865).
